Why aren't these treatments available in the US?
The standard treatment in most cancer centers and hospitals in the US are based on the NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) guidelines, which determine a protocol based on the stage and type of cancer, leaving no room for personalization. Meaning, doctors are using FDA approved drugs and patients are receiving them with all their toxicities, and without knowing whether they are actually doing anything for their cancer. Medications and therapies are also limited by insurance companies. However, ICCA Global being a truly integrative cancer center, we are not limited by the NCCN guidelines and insurance companies. It enables us to personalize cutting-edge alternative therapies with a higher potential of helping you progress towards healing.

Why did my insurance company deny my PET scan?
In efforts to control cost, insurance companies have implemented numerous policies to reduce the number of what they consider to be “nonindicated” tests, such as PET scans. Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. DOI: 10.2967/jnumed.121.264374 found that most U.S. insurance companies deny PET/CT imaging studies in around 10% to more than 60% of their patients.
At ICCA Global, we understand that time is your most precious resource when it comes to cancer. Therefore we strive to provide the most comprehensive care in a timely matter without delays from insurance companies requiring insurers to consult with doctors when determining which services require authorizations. Upon arrival, each patient undergoes a PET/CT that allows our physicians to detect metastatic cancer at the molecular level, ensuring comprehensive and accurate diagnostics.
PET scan uses a radioactive tracer that emits positron that can be modified to view organs with abnormalities while CT scan is a computer generated x-ray that can detect normal and abnormal organs of the body.
Cancer cells show up as bright spots on PET scans because they have a higher metabolic rate than do typical cells.
PET scans may be useful in:
- Detecting cancer.
- Revealing whether your cancer has spread.
- Checking whether a cancer treatment is working.
- Finding a cancer recurrence.
